History of Allen
Allen has grown from an early settlement of Caddo and Comanche Indian tribes dating back to before the 1800s to a thriving city built around some of the earliest railroad construction in Texas. Allen is home to one of the only remaining stone dams in the United States, which was used as a water station for the Houston and Texas Central Railway. The remaining site includes the stone dam, a foundation for a pump house and a foundation for a water tower, which is designated by the
Texas Historical Commission as a state archaeological landmark.
