Hot Spots to Cool Down in Allen This Summer!
As we get into the dog days of summer, Allen has more than just amazing parks and trails to soak up the sun. What about fun ways to escape the Texas heat? From ice cream spots and fun locations that the kiddos will love, to after 5:00 treats for adults. Once we get to triple digits, we can all agree that air-conditioned hot spots and water work locations need to be on our daily itinerary this season.
Fun [out of] The Sun
Bowling, laser tag, rock climbing, and shuffling across a high-ropes course is a great way to spend a few sun-free hours during the summer with friends and family. Head to PINSTACK, where you can indulge in a night full of fun. With a full bar and a whole menu of amazing eats, you can fuel up in between laser tag rounds. Cool down even more with the frozen jack and coke for adults or extravagant shakes like the new Dreamsicle shake for the kiddos. If you’re looking for something a little more adventurous, venture out to The Dinosaur Company, where you can wander around their new air-conditioned home learning and gazing at lifesize dinosaur animatronics on a guided tour. Take advantage of photo opportunities and become a real paleontologist as you learn cool facts and collect stamps in your take-home expedition passport.
And, speaking of new adventures, pick your indoor adventure at either of Allen’s very own VR locations. VR Trip is located at Watters Creek at Montgomery Farm and offers a vast selection of VR games. As soon as you put on the headset, you’re immersed in an all-new world where you can fight off zombies, race to the finish line in the only iRacing game in Allen or discover new treasures! Imaginations VR is also worth the trip. They have new and exciting virtual experiences regularly, including the newest VR Flight Simulator. Become a pilot in this terrifyingly immersive and fun experience as you sore thousands of feet above ground. Just don’t look down!
Take a break from shopping at The Village at Allen and step out of the heat at Allen Community Ice Rink, just on the edge of the shopping center. This is one of Allen’s hot spots to cool down for locals and visitors alike. Amateurs can skate right along with the best of them during open skate. Sharpen your skates, dust off your jacket, and get ready to become the next Mirai Nagasuor or Connor McDavid.
Bonus Tip: Stop by Cold Stone Creamery at The Village at Allen for a post-skate cone!
Splash & Play!
As things heat up, there’s no better place for your little ones to cool down than kidMania Play & Sprayground at Celebration Park. Spend a day at this fun wet park where the kids can splash, skip and run through tons of water features for a full super soaker moment. Don’t worry, parents; there are plenty of shaded areas for you to relax if you don’t want to join in on the chaos. You can’t come to Celebration park without visiting the adjacent playground for an exciting end-of-day burst (and a fun way to air dry before heading home)! KidMania is one of Texas's largest handicap-accessible parks so that everyone can get in on all the excitement.
You know what they say: There's no such thing as too much adrenaline. This time of year, it should be on your mind whether you're looking for a new hobby or just something to do with the kids that will make them want to come back again and again! Hydrous Wake Park is a must! Try cable wakeboarding for the first time with beginner lessons, or hit the ramps from the get-go for those daredevils and seasoned pros.
If you’re just looking to relax poolside, Tru By Hilton Dallas Allen has $5 pool passes that get you a day of fun in the sun without being an overnight guest. Skip the crowded public pools and head to this vibrant hotel to relax in the water. You might want to think about booking a stay after catching a glimpse of all Tru has to offer. After a soak in the pool, their lobby game room is calling your name.
Or, purchase a special day pass and a shady cabana at Marriott Dallas Allen Hotel. Your “day-cation” awaits at this resort-style pool ideal for lounging with a cocktail on a sunny day. Enjoy inventive cuisine with poolside food and beverage service from Canyon Bar & Grill. Tip: Feel free to make it a week-day staycation with special rates and tons of summer fun, steps away!
Beat The Heat with a Summer Treat
Is it even summer without a classic cold, sweet treat? You haven’t had a snow cone until you’ve had the “best sno on earth” at Bahama Bucks. This isn’t your average snow cone stand with chunky ice and overly sweet flavoring. This is melt in your mouth (obviously), deliciously soft “sno” with over 100 flavors and flavor combinations. If frozen yogurt is more your speed, Allen has no shortage of places to lick, scoop and top the creamy goodness.
Amid outdoor shopping at any one of our major shopping centers, cool down indoors at a frozen yogurt shop in the center. Yumilicious at both Allen Premium Outlets and The Village at Allen invites you to an easy-going frozen yogurt experience that the whole family will love. Make your way down the frozen yogurt line, sampling each of their amazing flavors, then pick your poison and top it with your favorites cookies, candies and syrups to create the ultimate yogurt sunday! On Wednesdays, head over to Watters Creek at Montgomery Farm, where you can enjoy Waffle Wednesday at Menchie’s Frozen Yogurt that includes a free waffle bowl/cone with your order.

Cool Down, Chill Out
Summer treats aren’t just for the kids. Adults can get a cool twist on a cocktail at Peppersmash - Craft Bar and Kitchen. Think cool thoughts as your snacking on their famous Charcuterie board with chef’s choice options and sipping on a Frose G&T - a sorbet-style cocktail served chilled at -320degrees F. If that doesn’t keep you cool, don’t pass up boozy milkshakes at Black Walnut Cafe with flavors like Bourbon Carmel and Whiskey Chocolate. The Tiramisu Shake with New Amsterdam vodka, Patrón XO Café, tiramisu gelato, chocolate sauce, and whipped cream is pretty much what summer dreams are made of.
When it comes to indulging in a pick-me-up while chilling out, Armor Coffee Co. has the treats and the vibes. Relax in their modern lobby with cold beer, wine, and of course, deliciously made coffees. Try the Nitro Cold Brew - a cold, creamy summer treat made in-house with their 18-hour cold brew infused with nitrogen. The expert baristas suggest a shot of caramel if you want a sweet kick.
From ice cream to water, Allen has you covered. With a variety of places for all age groups and interests, it’s never too hot in Allen! Who are we kidding? It will always be hot during the summer months in Texas. But, at least with these fun suggestions, we can find ways to cool down!
