Under Construction (But Not For Long)

There’s a new guy in town by way of California. He goes by the name Jonathan Powers. And, yes, he’s got the power. Over 15 years of hospitality power (OK, or experience). Jonathan is the General Manager of the Hyatt Place –Dallas/Allen hotel, expected to open just off of North Central Expressway in September. 
Jonathan Powers- Hyatt Place AllenWith construction well underway, we donned our hard hats and set off on a sneak peek tour of the 104 roomy-room property. We were led by Jonathan and his partner-in-hospitality aka Director of Sales, Lisa Smith. 

As we began the tour, Jonathan shared how he took training to the next level in preparation for his role.  He spent time at the DFW Hyatt Place doing everything from greeting guests at the front desk to cooking breakfast at 5:30 a.m. to mixing up cocktails behind the bar. 

“I have a hands on approach. I believe that the general manager sets the tone and culture of the hotel,” says Jonathan. 

As we continued through the property, it was apparent that his hands on approach had paid off. He knew the exact layout of what each square foot of the wooden shell would become. As he vividly described each area, it was easy to visualize everything from the Coffee to Cocktails Bar, which will serve up espresso based beverages, craft beers and various spirits created from a fully stocked bar to the StayFit Gym with top of the line Life Fitness equipment and a view of the outdoor pool. Every amenity has been well thought out with an exceptional guest experience in mind. Jonathan even pointed out that there will be SoundBreak® XP® boards installed to soundproof guestrooms and provide the highest level of privacy and a quiet place to rest after long days of sports, meetings or whatever brings you to town. “I value delivering extraordinary experiences to our guests. Knowing that noise is common complaint, we’ve taken extra steps,” said Jonathan. “This industry is and always will be about people.”

As we moved into the 2,000 square feet of flexible meeting and event space, Lisa’s face lit up. She had already began mapping out the possibilities for groups to make good use of the Dallas/Fort Worth themed rooms. 

As the grand opening approaches, Jonathan says, “Whitestone Hospitality is the management company developing the hotel and they’re very excited about the project in Allen.”  I

In the meantime, Jonathan is looking forward to continuing the hiring process and building the Hyatt Place- Dallas/Allen team from scratch. He takes a supportive approach when it comes to working with his staff and says, “I love to mentor. I love to train. I love working with people from our sales team to the back of the house.” He believes that personal and professional development, with the help of mentors, is what put him in the position he’s in today and hopes to pass that along to his team. Jonathan also takes pride in being a leader in the community and has held positions on the Board of Directors for the San Mateo County/Silicon Valley Convention and Visitors Bureau and the Chamber of Commerce for Brisbane, California. We are happy to have him join our hospitality family and we’re anxiously awaiting the addition of the Hyatt Place Dallas/Allen
