It’s summer in Texas, and that means the kids are out of school and the temperatures are on the warm side. But don’t fret, in Allen we’ve got ample opportunities to keep your family cool and happy throughout the sunny summertime break.
It’s a scientific fact that exposure to water can have a cooling effect. Although swimming in public fountains seems to be discouraged these days, there still exist many places where kids are free to dash, splash and swim. Operated by Allen Parks and Recreation, the kidMania sprayground at Celebration Park gives children aged 2 to 12 a fun place to get wet and appropriately wild. The sprayground and adjacent playground are handicap accessible, ensuring no one misses out on the fun.
While spraygrounds are great for the young ones, we know that teens usually prefer their outdoor activities served up with more adrenaline. For them, Hydrous Wakepark at Allen Station fits the bill quite nicely. At the park’s 10-acre lake, wakeboarders of all ages and abilities can learn and hone their skills while being towed by a high-tech cable system. Open Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays throughout the summer, Hydrous plays host to single- and multi-day camps, small-group lessons and birthday parties.
An afternoon of whirlybird 540s and half-cab double backrolls can cause one to work up quite an appetite. Fortunately, Allen’s Watters Creek at Montgomery Farm offers no shortage of destinations for athletes seeking sweet rewards for their aquatic efforts. At this upscale dining and shopping destination, you can enjoy authentic Italian gelato and iced lattes at Paciugo, homemade custom fro-yo at Menchie’s Frozen Yogurt and insanely inventive popsicles (think Blueberry Cheesecake, Nutter Butter and Pomegranate Grapefruit) at the newest outpost of Frios Gourmet Pops.
It being summer and all, it’s understandable if your crew prefers recreational options of a more indoor variety. If that’s the case, then load them up and head over to PINSTACK. More than a mere bowling alley, this is a full-bore entertainment complex with a dual-level laser-tag arena, high-ropes course, rock-climbing wall, bumper cars and video games. Enjoy a sit-down lunch or dinner with the family, then send the kiddos off to climb, bowl and laser tag each other while you and the other adults oversee the controlled chaos from the full-service bar.
In Texas, some places are just cooler than others. We hope to see you and your family in Allen this summer!
