Historic Water Station Trail and Old Stone Dam

Features

  1. Hike/Bike Trails
  2. Historic
  3. Only in Allen

Allen's 1874 stone dam and railroad water station is located north of Exchange in Allen Station Park.

Construction of the interpretive trail through Allen's historic Houston and Texas Central Railway Water Station within Allen Station Park was recently completed. Program elements include preservation of the existing historic features, including Allen’s 1873 Old Stone Dam and water tower foundations, interpretative trails and signage, overlooks, enhanced trail access, trail head improvements off of Cedar Drive and minor landscape improvements.

The Historic Water Station Trail gives trail-goers an opportunity to experience Allen's history. Just off the path of the Cottonwood Creek Hike and Bike Trail, a destination bridge overlooking the Old Stone Dam connects to the crushed granite loop where interpretative panels detail information about the Historic Water Station, a Texas State Archaeological Landmark listed on the National Register of Historic Places. To access this trail, park at Allen Station Park and follow the trail signs northwest.
