Insider Tips, Tricks, and Treats for a Fun Fall in Allen

Fall season 2020 is officially here! When the weather cools off, we know how to have fun here in Allen. Maybe it’s the leaves crunching under our boots or the aroma of a Fall brew on a chilly evening, but there’s just something about this time of year that we can’t get enough of.

Bethany Lakes Park

Check out this ultimate guide to Fall fun in Allen to warm your spirit and put that twinkle in your eye as the holidays inch closer!

Firesides Blazing Bright

Sitting fireside for happy hour at Bar Louie at The Village at Allen is a cozy treat for Fall. Savor their delicious Voodoo pasta while sipping on an "old" classic – The New Old Fashioned (secret: it's better than the old). Save room for dessert because you'll want to indulge in the decadent chocolate cake that includes a shot of Godiva chocolate liqueur. This pair is the perfect after-dinner treat to enjoy on a warm and cozy outdoor patio with that special someone.

Good luck choosing between the 38 options of beer on tap at this "not so average" English Pub – The Lion & Crown Pub at Watters Creek at Montgomery Farm. Grab dinner and drinks while you people watch on the lively, heated patio with your crew, then kick back and enjoy the many events hosted here each weekend from acoustic nights and cover bands to live coverage of sporting events and karaoke nights.

If your crew includes those of the four-legged breed, we have just the spot for you. Just remember, when enjoying the firepits on the patio at
Lazy Dog Restaurant & Bar at Stacy Green, there are two “musts.” Must #1: Lazy Dog loves supporting local so be sure to ask your server what locally crafted beers are on tap, as they change often. Must #2: Try the fried deviled eggs. You’re welcome. (Bonus tip: Don't forget to order a doggy bag for your pooch on the way out!)

Leaves are Falling, Nature is Calling

Hay Day Festival Connemara

As you may know, Allen is known for our parks and trails. But, one of our best-kept secrets is the
Connemara Meadow Nature Preserve. Visitors from all around DFW venture out every season to explore this 72-acre natural oasis as our very own “Nature’s Playground.” Take a self-guided tour through the meadow, open daily from dawn until dusk, or come out for morning yoga or an afternoon picnic in The Pecan Grove during your visit.

You can even enjoy Connemara Conservancy's two-part Hay Day Festival on October 23-24, 2020. Adults, call the babysitter and enjoy a night of fun at Connemara's rustic hay lounge in The Pecan Grove. Throw on your flannel and boots and make it a friend's night out as you celebrate Fall with an evening of live music, food and adult beverages. Hay Day Table Tickets are $125 and include hay bale seating for 4 adults, hor d'oeuveres, and a bottle of wine. Additional beverages will be available at the event via donation.

The fun doesn't stop there. Bring the whole family out the following day for the Hay Day Family Festival in Connemara's Meadow. Enjoy hay games for prizes and family hayrides as you experience the beauty of the Meadow. Get lost in the grass maze or race against the clock in an exciting scavenger hunt. Be sure to bring a camera because you can't miss the photo opportunities and picture stations around the event. A limited number of family tickets (up to 6 people) are available for $20, allowing plenty of room to spread out and have fun! Give back to a cause when you purchase tickets to either night of events. All ticket sales and donations will go to Connemara Meadow Nature Preserve (non-profit) to help maintain the beauty.

Calling All Fall Flavor Foodies

It’s no secret that a foodie’s favorite season is Fall. Not only does the official season of baking begin, but foodie flavor favorites make their way back to the menu. That’s right. Pumpkin spice is officially everywhere. But if your palette is more diverse, local favorites like
Batch Bakery have you covered. Try their fan-favorite, the Chocolate Pecan pie. Whether you say "pe-CAN" or "pe-CON", the explosion of chocolaty flavor in every bite will have you saying "MORE, please!" Insider tip: On Fridays and Saturdays, stop in for a mouth-watering cheddar, jalapeño cheddar, or original homemade buttermilk biscuit. We bet you can't eat just ONE! So, grab a batch for breakfast, and maybe a box to go.

Beans in chili? If you’re from Texas you know it’s a popular debate. Regardless of what chili entails for you or how mama made it growing up, the Texas chili from
TwoRows Classic Grill will give your family recipe a run for its money! With stewed ribeye, ground beef, and Italian sausage, stop in and see why this cozy dish won a People's Choice Award at the Allen Chili Cookoff!

Oktoberfest is near, Bring on the BEER

Prost! Cheers! No matter how you drink your beer – pint, stein, mug, or sniffer, Allen has some amazing places to grab a beer! The occasion calls for a solid lager like the seasonal Ghost Cow Oktoberfest – an original brew from our very own
Nine Band Brewing! Stop by their taproom and grab a can of this rich and classic Märzenbier or switch it up with a seasonal favorite like the Candy Corn Scream ale. Connoisseurs say pour it in a glass and get the most out of the sweet flavor and smooth vanilla taste. Can’t decide which you like? Ask for a Fall flight! Check Nine Band Brewing’s Facebook page here so you don't miss out on their limited-time seasonal lineup of ale.

If you’re also a coffee lover, go where coffee and beer intersect in more ways than one. Literally. Order the Black Matter Nitro on tap at Armor Coffee Co. in The Village at Allen. From the aroma to the finish of this local Texas beer, the hints of cinnamon, chocolate, and espresso will have you wondering if you're drinking a cold brew coffee or a uniquely satisfying beer.

But you can’t truly experience Oktoberfest in Allen without a trip to
Watters Creek at Montgomery Farm. This 52-acre resort-style shopping oasis is hosting their own nod to Oktoberfest with “Bach and Brews” on October 24, 2020. After a full day of shopping, join this Halloween inspired beer crawl at participating restaurants such as The Lion & Crown Pub, Cru Food & Wine Bar, Fish City Grill, and more. Meet up with the crew for a casual night of live music from the Allen Philharmonic Orchestra and local, craft brews that you can't pass up.

Turn this experience up a notch and stop by the Watters Creek Concierge to pick up a crawl card to begin your beer
journey. As you make your way from restaurant to restaurant, collect 3 stamps on the crawl card and return it by 7:15 PM for a chance to win a $250 Watters Creek gift card!

While you’re in Watters Creek, you can’t miss out on Frogg Coffee Bar & Creperie. Not only will you find their patio nestled quaintly under the giant trees on the village green, but you’ll also find that this local favorite is much more than specialty crepes and hand-crafted coffee. Their “Red, White or Local” menu features local DFW favorites like the Deep Ellum American IPA, Blood and Honey Pale Ale, and the Temptress Milk Stout.
